I’ll be at the following events…
Saturday 28th July
‘Stories were wild, wild animals and went off in directions you couldn’t expect’
Get the summer holidays off to a roaring start with a morning of monstrous tales for the whole family. Authors and performers will read short stories from their own work and from their own favourite tales. Meet new friends and get reacquainted with old ones with a selection of stories about monsters of all shapes and sizes.
The line up includes poet and children’s author Joseph Coelho. Full line up to be announced.
Please note while our main stage production A Monster Calls is for ages 10+, Monstrous Tales is aimed at younger children, with a 5+ age recommendation.
Sunday 29th July
The Telling Tales Festival, Shakespeare’s Globe
Impress your friends and family by becoming a superstar sonnet spinner. Joseph Coelho will break down the Shakespearean Sonnet in a super fun and active way. Before you know it you will be creating sonnets that delight and wow, giant sonnets that you can perform out loud, whisper in secret or simply write and give away in birthday cards or add to your very own poetry book!
If Shakespeare had taken this workshop… he would have written a few more sonnets!
Suitable for ages 8+

Performance poet Joseph Coelho’s new picture book If All the World Were… centres around a young girl’s love for her grandad, who always had stories to tell. Joseph shares his inspirations
and helps you to create a new poem, showing how writing and drawing can be used as a wonderful way to explore feelings and record memories. A thought-provoking and uplifting event which explores the concept of death and loss in a touching, tender and accessible way.
Back in the Classroom…
Exploring precious memories
If All the World Were… shows all the wonderful things a little girl does with her grandad. Choose someone you love spending time with and write a list of all your favourite things to do together. You could separate them by season, just as in the book. Then draw a picture to accompany each activity, showing the two of you enjoying it together.
Saturday 15th September
Society Of Childrens Books Writers and Illustrators Master Class
Poetry is at the heart of all language. A poetic line that strikes a chord, tugs at the heart strings and leaves a mark does not just make a good poem, it makes for good writing full stop. Poet, playwright and author, Joseph Coelho will lead you through a highly practical session unearthing all the ways that poetry can help us find new ways to bring our writing to life. Drawing on poetic techniques and different poetic forms, Joseph will demonstrate how an understanding and appreciation of how poetry is written can have a huge impact on all mediums from picture books to non-fiction and beyond.
Friday 21st September
Youth Libraries Group Conference 2018
An introduction to the works and influences of three poets.
Tuesday 25th September
Monday 1st October

Hear picture book author and poet Joseph Coelho (who has been on Blue Peter! Woo Hoo!) share his magical story about a little girl and the worlds that hide in books. A fun-filled event for young bookworms, with bugs, dinosaurs and a rest on a beach! Hoorah for libraries!
I will keep this page updated with all of my future events so keep coming back to stay up to date.
Hope to see you soon.
