Chester Library and Storyhouse

Where do I start? This space, this dream is incredible, a fusion of theatre, cinema, cafe, community centre, restaurant and Library where books spread throughout the entire space so you can sit and sip a coffee whilst you read about foraging. Pick up the book that inspired the film in the cinema lobby, read the play whilst waiting to go into the theatre. And because of this fusion of spaces it has the longest opening hours of any uk library.

The Building was originally an odeon in the 1930s and the art deco interior is sublime. The reclaimed furniture throughout gives the whole building a very homely feel (as well lending it some green kudos.) The Storyhouse really does feel like the beating heart of the community and o my visit I saw people from all walks of@life using the space Manager Linda told me of the youth groups that get involved and suggest activities and of the 120 + community groups that use the space. And what’s more throughout the building was poetry by the brilliant @sissaylemn.
I found it very hard to leave this amazing space.

A massive thank you to Linda and Matthew, Anne, Janet, cari and Jolyn for letting me sit in the wonderful story chair and signing me up. With my new card I borrowed @eoincolfer’s brilliant hi-tec meets fantasy meets super villain novel #ArtemisFowl
