Long Eaton Library, Derbyshire

Maybe it’s because I’m a pieces that I’m always slightly drawn to water. My first stop on the way home from Derby (and having just joined The Riverside Library in Derby City) was Long Eaton Library in the county of Derbyshire. A pleasant walk along the Erewash Valley Trail had me stopping constantly to spy on huge, and I mean huge, fish sunning themselves in the water. I couldn’t tell you what they were except that they were long and point one had green stripes and would have looked more at home on a coral reef. I walked for 20 minutes or so up to the beautiful building that is Long Eaton Library. Staff had been warned of my arrival and so I was welcomed by Librarian Elaine Whitehead who showed me the library’s glorious stained glass window in the Arts and Crafts tradition and I got a chance to check out the cute children’s section complete with picture book train! the clock was ticking I had to run to get back on the London bound train only to disembark again at Loughborough…
