A day of poetry at The Jerwood.
Students hunted out individual elements in collages and colllections in works of art, drew them, labelled them and turned them into poems that they performed in the gallery (open to the public).
Students came up with lines that used personification, similes, and alliteration independently…

The teachers and I did not plan for them to use poetic devices but planned for space within which their natural propensity for poetry could arise.
The session ended with the kids taking part in four 15 min stations creating their own collages and poetry via an OHP, with interesting objects in cardboard frames, via blocking words in books and creating giant card poems.
I knew I was hoarding all this stuff form something!
