Parents and Poetry in School

Beautiful day at two schools on Canvey Island that have been using my poems over the last couple of weeks as part of their poetry unit.

Parents were present at both sessions. It was lovely to hear a Dad after the last session waiting in line for a signed book say…

“that was good wasn’t it- I was dreading coming but that was really good”

all the parents shook my hands. I was really touched and further convinced at how essential it is to invite parents into school to, at times, take part in their childrens learning.

I saw children explaining to parents the particulars of alliteration and grandfathers providing wonderful examples of consequence in metaphoric writing…

“If all the world were chocolate cake every other person would be a doctor”

Well done to Pop-Up Education for such a great project.
